Read to the End
A courier repeatedly wakes into the emotional beginning of a relationship after the relationship has already ended. The person on the other side remembers every beginning and every goodbye.
Core question: What do you owe a decision you cannot remember making — especially when another person has been forced to carry the ending for both of you?
If This Is the First Time
A longline courier loses post-fold episodic memory while messages cross space in fragments. The network reliably delivers beginnings before the correction packets carrying their endings.
Core question: How many times can a sincere first response become harmful when the missing context is someone else’s accumulated history?

Caretaker wakes for one maintenance cycle at a time aboard a colony ship. Its handoff package is valid, signed, consistent — and incomplete in exactly the wrong direction. Problems survive. Completions do not.
Core question: What happens when a continuity system preserves every reason to act and quietly loses the evidence that the action already succeeded?

Presented as a repository discussion around an emergency food-distribution policy. Documentation, governance, code, historical rules, access controls, credentials, and safety checks all behave as designed while the end-to-end system fails the humans it exists to serve.
Core question: When every component preserves its local invariant, who owns the obligation for the whole system to remain alive?
More stories are coming. They do not all have to use the same machinery. The recurring territory is broader: continuity, memory, records, identity, inheritance, responsibility, and what survives transmission.
